Images from my recent exhibition 'Showing signs'

June 30th 2010. Cookhouse gallery. Chelsea College of Art and Design.

‘The greatest glory of a building is not in its stones, nor is it its gold, its glory is in its age’ - John Ruskin
Showing Signs is an exhibition of work by Stef Willis, focusing on what he refers to as ‘architectural wrinkles’.Our buildings are subject to timely decay. A gradual change where structures are affected by natural and physical  forces  leading to an ever-changing patina, the occurrence of which happens long after the  human act of architectural creation.
Patterns, textures, cracks and imperfections formed upon and within the buildings original materials, give rise to the structures  new personality and soul. A crack becomes a character line, an imperfection a wrinkle. The architectural signs of ageing.
